Well, some of the best bargains around can be found in the city of Oldsmar at the Oldsmar Flea Market. Just off Tampa Road at 180 Race Track Road N, the flea market is open Sat and Sun from 9-5. It’s big, it’s full of stuff, and it’s all pretty cheap! Stroll the aisles and you will meet friendly vendors selling everything from sunglasses to antiques. Housewares, furniture, lamps, artwork - yes, I even spotted a velvet Elvis - all kinds of useful and decorative items for the home can be found here. They also have the best fresh produce around. Plants too. You can spend the whole day browsing.

If you are shopping for a home, Oldsmar Real Estate is a great place to find a bargain too. Prices have dropped significantly in the past year so there are some great deals here. Tampa Real Estate has many homes for a frugal shopper, come browse and you’ll see.

Since we learned about Fred Howard Park closing for renovations (it will be closed until Fall 2009), we’ve all been wondering where else to go in Tarpon Springs to enjoy the sand and take in a sunset. Well, we discovered a little known gem not far from Howard Park called Sunset Beach. Sunset Beach is just south of Fred Howard Park, off Florida Avenue. Although the water is not ideal for swimming, this beach is a great spot to relax by the water and watch the birds. Even better, pack a picnic dinner and head down for the sunset. It’s a quiet place to watch the setting sun. If you live in Tarpon Springs you may already know this little secret, but for those who are looking for Tarpon Springs real estate, it is good to know there are so many beautiful parks here.

Another thing we found out about Sunset Beach is that they have been hosting a Music on the Beach series once a month that runs from April to November. The shows are free, although donations are welcome and go towards the construction of a Beach Pavilion to be used for concerts and other events. Upcoming dates for the remainder of 2008 are Thursdays from 7-9 PM on Oct. 16 (Dapper Dan Band) and Nov 13 (Lil Pearl & the Big Boys). Tampa Bay real estate offers many homes in and around Tarpon Springs, come take a look.

Tampa really does have some wonderful neighborhoods. The blend of old and new architecture comes together beautifully in one of my favorite areas, Davis Islands. There are many old Mediterranean style homes with historic distinction, as well as newer homes, townhouses & condos. Lots to choose from if you are looking for a home on Davis Islands. Surrounded by water, it’s a lovely place for a stroll. The main street is charming, perfect for shopping and getting a bite to eat. There is a lovely marina and the Davis Island Yacht Club, even a dog park for walking your best friend. Owning Tampa Bay real estate here is like a little slice of heaven.

Another neighborhood I love in Tampa is the Carrollwood area. Some interesting things to do in the Carrollwood area are weekend performances at the Cultural Arts center on Lowell Rd and also the Carrollwood Players Community Theater on Gunn Highway. The Carrollwood Village area is great for walking or biking, and so is Lake Carroll. And even more biking can be done on the Upper Tampa Bay Bike Trails, which lead to the Suncoast Trail. So if you plan to look for a home in Carrollwood, you’ll want to get a bike too! Carrollwood is centrally located and convenient to all the major highways. You really can’t go wrong buying Tampa real estate in Carrollwood, it’s an upscale place that you will be happy to call home.

The public access hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. Donations are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Visit their website at www.suncoastprimate.org

What is the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary?

It’s a non-profit corporation in the state of Florida and is run entirely by volunteers. The Suncoast Primate Sanctuary Foundation, Inc. is a haven for elderly, abandoned, displaced animals, mostly primates. The animals are treated with kindness and dignity for the remainder of their lives. Speaking of volunteers, Ian Gibbons, son of Joe Gibbons with Lipply Real Estate has been a volunteer since 2006. The Suncoast Primate Sanctuary relies on its volunteers to run the place and they needs lots of volunteers! Students, seniors and everyone in between are welcome to volunteer. When I asked Ian why he chose to volunteer there he said, “Originally, I wanted to find a place to do community service in order to get my hours for Bright Futures. This seemed like a fun & enriching way to do that. I stayed on after completing my hours because I realized it was a really good experience. And, I became attached to the animals.” He added, “The best part is the everyday interaction with these fascinating, and sometimes very humanlike creatures.”

Support this worthy foundation with your time and money.
