Pappas Restaurant Becomes Riverside Venue

Finally, we have an answer to what the owners are doing with the famous landmark restaurant at the Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks we all know as “Pappas Restaurant”. Closed in 2005 and sold to investors in 2006 for over $6 million dollars, plans are that the new facility will host weddings and special events with a long term plan to possibly include a hotel and maybe even a small restaurant.

Sitting there vacant for the last few years has done nothing to keep the Sponge Docks going. Although I think most people would have liked to see another restaurant come in, at least there is a plan now. Many memories are etched in the minds of us who have lived in this area for years; I am just glad they figured something out to do with the place.

  1. Well, we all have seen this many times over the last 20-25 years, investors / speculators who buy lovely places and have idiotic dreams. Sometime (thanks God) the banks stop them in time, but we can also see old, lovely and charming restaurants and bars been reformed to luxury and expensive places. And after 6 months without any clients, to they have to close down.

  2. I was in Tarpon Springs several years ago and had the opportunity to eat at Pappas. The food was great as was the facility. I’m glad to hear that it’s going to be put to good use again.
