Weekend Escape to Sarasota

Siesta Key – Just Over and Hour From Tampa Bay

Need a week or weekend escape from the daily grind but don’t want to hop on a plane or drive too far? Take a trip south to Siesta Key, Florida. It should only take you just over an hour to get there. From Tampa Bay all you have to do is travel south on I-75 and get off on the Clark Road or Bee Ridge Road exit and head west to the beach. The short drive is a small price to pay to unwind your knots. The island is the perfect getaway if you want to escape for a long weekend and relax on the beach away from emails, phone calls and the other headaches of every day life.

Siesta Key is an 8 mile long barrier island off the coast of Sarasota, Florida which is roughly 50 miles south of Tampa Bay. It is surrounded by the clear blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Sarasota bay. In 2009, Siesta Key beach was named the #2 prettiest beach in the country by Dr. Beach. The sand is 99% quartz which feels cool under the feet. Vacationers travel from all over world visit Siesta Key because of the beach alone. Another benefit of living in Tampa, Florida is all of the great places to go for a long weekend. Many of them only require one or two tanks of gas for the car.

Siesta Key Fun

There is plenty to do on the island. You can do as little as much as you
want. One can relax in a beach chair watching the waves of the Gulf of Mexico,
go golfing one of the many courses in Sarasota, parasailing off the beach,
fishing offshore in the bay, dining in one of the many outdoor restaurants in
the Siesta Key village or swimming in the Gulf of Mexico.

Siesta Key Lodging

There are many short term rental condos on the beach. A few the nicer condos
are – Palm Bay Club, Sarasota Surf and Racquet, Siesta Dunes, Horizons West and
Crystal Sands. These are all located on the beach with many of them offering
stunning views of Siesta Key beach and the Gulf of Mexico Drive.

Siesta Key real estate

Thinking of buying a vacation property on or near the beach? There are many people who live in the Tampa Bay area but have a weekend escape in the Sarasota area. It is close enough to use frequently but far enough to get away from it all. In fact, a friend of mine here in Sarasota has a fabulous weekend getaway in St. Pete beach.

The island is made up of single family homes, condominiums, a few time shares and commercial property. Real estate prices on Siesta Key have declined sharply over the last 4 years. Some places are selling for ½ of what they were selling for in 2005. However, this buyers market will not last forever. Inventories have been dropping quickly and sales have been increasing. If you ever wanted to own a place on Siesta Key this might be the best time to buy one.  Just another great reason to live in Florida.
