Actor C.J. Sanders who played a young Ray Charles in the Academy Award-winning movie Ray will be the star of the TV pilot project being shot in Tarpon Springs. It’s a potential TV series about a group of kids who unravel mysteries and run their own newspaper called the Kid Edition. The filming takes place in December 2007. There’s no guarantee that show will continue to shoot in Tarpon Springs if it’s picked up, but city officials welcome the exposure nonetheless.
Other movies have been shot in Tarpon Springs over the years, they are: John Travolta’s movie The Punisher in 2004, 16 Fathoms Deep in 1948, Three Witnesses in 2001, Beneath the 12-Mile Reef in 1985 and To Kill a Lawyer in 1999. One movie took advantage of the subdivision Savannah Point between Lake Tarpon and Keystone Road because it looked a bit like a neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio. Savannah Point is known for it’s rolling hills, tall trees, and two story northern looking homes.
